Patricia Hall in 'Hall of Volunteers'

Patricia Hall came to Sierra Madre in 1998 on a whirlwind of positive energy, touching many organizations with her enthusiasm and professionalism.

A list of Sierra Madre nonprofit groups she's been associated with is extensive: president of Chamber of Commerce, Friends of the Sierra Madre Library and of Southern California Lyric Theater; chair of Friends of the Library Wine Tasting, plus member of Board of Trustees of Sierra Madre Library. And that's just in Sierra Madre. She brought her fundraising expertise and her organizational talents to all of those groups.

Before moving to this foothill town, Patricia was president of the Alhambra and San Marino Soroptomists, on the board of the San Gabriel Valley Red Cross, on the board of Pasadena Pops and the Pasadena Symphony Juniors, as well as the Green House Benefits Children's Hospital. She taught religion to second, third and fourth graders at Catholic churches in Arcadia and Alhambra.

Patricia started volunteering in service clubs during her high school years. Then her volunteerism went to Children's and Alhambra Hospitals before she became a member of the Alhambra Hospital Board. She was appointed to the State Committee of Volunteer Services of the California Hospital Association.

Patricia began a fundraising career at about this time of her life after having been "in accounting at the gas company and at IBM in human resources." Her career took off into workshops and campaigns.

Then she needed a speaker for an event in Santa Clara for the California Hospital Association and someone suggested Frank Hall. "He did an excellent job," Patricia said.

When the association asked her to schedule a two-day session for the Foundation boards of the Southern California area, she called Frank to head it. "He obtained great speakers and the session was a huge success, thanks to him."

Frank and Patricia started going out and were married in 1997.

Frank is senior vice president of Resource Development, overseeing the fundraising program for 15 hospitals in the St. Joseph Health System.

While traveling the Valley to do a study for Methodist Hospital in Arcadia, Patricia discovered Sierra Madre. She and Frank had been hoping to buy a home in the San Rafael area of Pasadena, but a glimpse of Sierra Madre changed their minds. They purchased a home and have been here since.

Why does Patricia enjoy volunteering? "You get so much more out of it than you put in."

She started traveling instead of finishing her course work at UCLA and was quickly smitten. She has been in every part of the world except China and India. In fact, this New York native calls traveling her passion.

Patricia Hall is truly one of our most enthusiastic volunteers. She's in the Volunteer Hall of Fame.
