Sierra Madre Transportation

1 - Sierra Madre Round-A-Bout

2 - Dial-A-Ride (Demand Response Transportation Service): New hours of service have been modified to Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday from 11 :00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. While the hours of service have changed, service will continue to be available Monday through Saturday, Prices for this program remain the same 50¢ for in- town trips and $1.00 for out-of-town trips one-way. The Sierra Madre Dial-A-Ride program is a point-to-point transportation service for the elderly and disabled residents of Sierra Madre. The program, which is subsidized by the partial return of gas tax revenue from the State to our community costs its riders $0.50 each way for local rides and $1.00 each way for rides that leave the City limits but go no more than two miles beyond the City's outer boundaries, or to any of the medical facilities in Pasadena, Arcadia, or Duarte. This program is regulated by State guidelines and restrictions. Riders must be residents of Sierra Madre, since the subsidiary funds come from taxes collected in the City. Riders must be 65 years of age or older, or must have a form, signed by a physician, attesting to a disability which hinders mobility. All patrons of the service must first register with Sierra Madre City Hall, and present proof of residence and age or disability. Rides are paid for by the use of vouchers, which may be purchased individually or in books of ten {for $0.50 or $5.00, respectively) at City Hall, the Library, Recreation Center or Senior Center. Riders may call for service up to 45 minutes before they need to travel. Reservations may be made by calling 355-3873.

Dial-A-Ride provides a convenient, low cost way in which people who can not drive can maintain a sense of freedom and self-sufficiency. The program is not intended to be a substitute for having one's own vehicle. Rather, it serves to enhance other modes of public transportation, at a reduced cost.
