Special Postmark To Celebrate Sierra Madre History

The U. S. Post Office in Sierra Madre and the Sierra Madre Centennial Committee announce a special postmark cancellation to celebrate Sierra Madre mountain history.  This post mark will be available upon request at the Sierra Madre Post Office between October 15, 2007 and Nov 12, 2007. Anyone can request that their letters or postcards be post marked with this special cancellation.

Saturday October 13, 2007 will be the first day this post mark will be available. A special event at Chantry Flat will be celebrating early Sierra Madre history with a focus on the pack trains, trails and camps of early Sierra Madre.

To participate in this special postal event, on October 13, 2007, take a card or envelope with current postage and go to Chantry Flat and request a special U.S. Postal Service historic postmark cancellation. A special temporary post office will be located at Chantry Flat Pack Station Saturday, October 13 from 12 noon to 1 P.M.  Postcards and letters can be mailed from the pack station with the special pack train donkey postmark.

After October 13, 2007 this post mark will be available upon request for your letters or cards at the Sierra Madre Post Office until Nov 12, 2007.

The events at Chantry Flat on October include a pancake breakfast that starts at 7:30 A.M., a hike with John Robinson with a tour of old time cabins from 8:30 to 12 noon and a special post mark cancellation at the pack station from 12 noon to 1P.M.  Prior registration is required for the hike with John Robinson.
