In this picture, St. Paul of the Cross, the original Passionist Father, looks out over the grounds where the fiesta is held, which looks out over the San Gabriel Valley, and on a clear day like the day of this Fiesta in the year 2000, the skyscrapers in Los Angeles are visible as well. (6/18/04)
Mater Dolorosa
Passionist Retreat Center to Hold 57th Annual Fiesta Next Weekend
The Mater Dolorosa
Passionist Retreat Center
will hold its 57th Annual Fiesta on Sunday, June 27th.
The Fiesta is held annually to raise funds to help in covering the
Retreat Center's expenses. One of the highlights of the Fiesta is
the barbecue beef/chicken dinner at which local "celebs" and
dignitaries such as City Council members traditionally take a turn at
serving up the meals. The Fiesta will also feature booths with
burgers, pizza, hot dogs, cotton candy, sno-cones, ice cream and more.
There will be a free children's art contest with supplies provided and
prizes. There will be pony rides and a petting zoo, a plant booth,
tours of the retreat center, bingo in an air-conditioned setting, and
the popular wine and cheese tasting event. There will also be a
plant booth and boutique featuring hand-crafted wares and arts and
crafts. Entertainment will be provided by San Gabriel
Folklorico (Mexican and Spanish dancing) from 3:30 to 4:00pm.
From 4:45 to 5:45, enjoy the sounds of Mariachi Juvenil, and from
5:45 to 8:30pm, Clearly Bluegrass will be performing.
First prize in this year's raffle is $10,000, 2nd prize is $1,000,
and third prize is $500. A bonus of $500 will be paid to the
winner if they are on the grounds when the winner is announced. |
