Hats Off to Colleen McKernan Colleen McKernan wears many hats in Sierra Madre as another accomplished volunteer. How can she be such an active volunteer and still run the business, Foothill HomeCare Partners, with Adrienne Bolger, her partner? Well, she just does. The business is located at 78 West Sierra Madre Blvd. Colleen is a member of several groups associated with her business such as Elder Abuse Task Force, working with law enforcement, hospitals and through community outreach programs. She is a member of the Alzheimer's Task Force and helps with Sierra Madre's Meals-on-Wheels. She said, "It's our job to keep seniors safe, comfortable and living in their homes." Colleen is also co-chair of membership for Civic Club, is on the Committee of Sierra Madre SMTV3 Community Television, and is on the Sierra Madre Community Foundation Board. She is on the coordinating committee for the Fourth Annual Wine and Cheese Walk. She has a history of volunteerism, also. Colleen has been Little League president after having been on the board for eight years, was president of St. Rita's Parent-Teacher Organization, has been on committees for Relay for Life, the Wistaria Festival and the Centennial Committee. Colleen is married to Kevin Drolet and they have a son, Patrick, who is a sophomore at the University of Arizona. She also has two daughters, one of whom, Theresa, works at Foothill HomeCare with her mother. Another daughter, Rachel, is a Long Beach Police Officer. Colleen has three granddaughters. Kevin's brother, Steven, lives with Colleen and Kevin. The local volunteer is a niece of Marilyn McKernan and the late Bill McKernan, both Citizens of the Year, both well-known community participants. Colleen gave a succinct reason for her work within the community: "This town has been so good to me and my family. It's important that we make a difference. We must give back." |
