The Highlander Market and Liquor Store Gets a Facelift Late May, 2003 Highlander Liquor Store Before (and After) The Highlander Market and Liquor store underwent a facelift this week. There is a new artistic floral look, with lots of brick (well, some of it's brick and some of it just appears to be). The work was done by Dan Gallagher Painting. Dan tells us that the illusion of the "vents", and the depth of the bricks, is designed to be viewed from the middle of the street, so that cars passing by will have the optimum view of the artwork. We spoke with Dan several times during the week, and were interrupted frequently by passersby who complimented the job he was doing. Bob Hatfield, who just sold Arnold's Hardware, complimented Dan, and then told him that he'd had a lot of positive comments from customers about the work as well. A Tree Commissioner who came by complimented Dan on his "Trompe l'oeil masterpiece." Bill Masannag, owner of The Highlander, said "We've been here in town for a while, and we owe it to the City to do the upgrade. We really found the right guy to do it, and we appreciate what he's done. We think he's done a great job....." If you haven't seen it yet, stop by and take a gander.
