The Sierra Madre Police Department offers the community many services, including fingerprinting, neighborhood, and business watch programs. Sierra Madre PD personnel utilize modern equipment, including digital cameras, radar, and an MDT (Mobile Display Terminal) system. The communications center has a CAD-RMS (Computer-Aided Dispatch and Records Management System). Patrol personnel use different types of transportation, including police cars, police utility vehicles, bicycles, and a recently acquired energy-efficient electric vehicle. Many of these pieces of equipment were purchased through grant programs or by community support.

Carrier Alert Program Keeps an Eye on Seniors, Disabled in Sierra Madre

A program sponsored jointly by the Sierra Madre Police Department and the United States Postal Service is designed to safeguard the well-being of seniors and the disabled in the community.

What is the program?

Some older residents and disabled or special needs persons in Sierra Madre have no family or friends to routinely check on their welfare. The Carrier Alert program is designed to identify those people who may need special assistance.

How can you participate?

If you wish to have this special attention, please fill out the participation form (available at the Community Services Department, SMPD and the Senior Center, or online by clicking here) and mail or drop it off to the Sierra Madre Police Department.

How does the program work?

Once participating seniors or disabled persons are identified, the Postmaster will notify the postal carriers to pay closer attention to those who are located in their service area.  Postal carriers and neighbors will be alert to residents who have not been seen, mail has not been taken in, newspapers remaining on the driveway, or lights, or televisions left on are possible alert indications.

Postal carriers who detect anything unusual will call the Sierra Madre Police to contact the resident. If you see something suspicious or unusual at one of your neighbor's homes, call the Sierra Madre Police at (626) 355-1414.  In most cases, officers will call the emergency contacts listed on the participation form to notify of them of the police response. The Sierra Madre Police will respond to assist any residents who need them.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call the Sierra Madre Police Department, Carrier Alert Program at 626-355-1414. Participation in the Carrier Alert Program is solely at the discretion of the participant and does not imply any liability for the City of Sierra Madre, the United States Postal Service and its officials, staff or volunteers.

Sierra Madre Now Offers Automated Parking Ticket Payment Service

Starting the first week of February 2008, people who received parking tickets within the City will be able to make their fine payment online.  The Police Department will provide a payment link that will go on the City’s website.  A link will direct the viewer to an automated payment screen to input basic information and pay the fine by credit card.  In addition to the fine fee, a $3.00 processing fee will cover the processing cost.  This results in no out-of-pocket expense for the City, and it provides a safe and convenient way for people to pay for parking citations.

For more information, please contact Captain Giannone at the Sierra Madre Police Department at 626-355-1414.
