Candlelight Walk in Sierra Madre Creates Christmas Cheer
Dec. 17, 2006
Photos and Videos are at the bottom of the text
Sunday, Dec. 17th, members of Sierra Madre parishes joined other local residents in a candlelight procession that began at St. Rita’s Catholic Church at Baldwin Ave. and Grandview and ended at Kersting Court. Hundreds of people marched in the procession with their lit candles, and singing Christmas carols until they got to Kersting Court. Once they arrived at Kersting Court, Caleb Scoon and Faith Dialani, portraying Mary and Joseph, placed a statue of the baby Jesus in the crèche located in the green area of the Sierra Madre downtown.
Following the placement of the child in the manger, scripture was read, interspersed with Christmas carols. Among those reading the scripture were Rev. Richard Anderson of Sierra Madre Congregational Church, Fr. Richard Krekelberg of St. Rita’s, Fr. Patrick Brennan of the Mater Dolorosa Retreat Center, Dr. Phil Carlson of Bethany Church, Fr. Michael Bamberger and Fr. Vaskin Movsesian of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, Rev. Holly Reinhart-Marean of SM United Methodist Church, and Dr. Scott Daniels of the First Church of the Nazarene of Pasadena.
The candlelight walk is an annual happening in Sierra Madre, usually held the Sunday before Christmas, however, since this year Christmas Eve is the Sunday before Christmas, the decision was made to move the event up a week. Videos - Not the best quality video, very dark, but you'll get a feel for what it was like, because, after all, it was dark - All files are 2mb, should download fairly quick even if you're on dial-up.
