Alverno Jaguar Softball Heads to CIF for Seventeenth Straight Year
Alverno High School’s softball team is heading to CIF playoffs for the seventeenth straight year. The undefeated Jaguars hold a 10-0 Horizon League record this season, with a 20-3-0 record overall.
“This team has a lot of talent,” comments coach Frankie Russo. Russo has coached the Jaguars to CIF playoffs for those seventeen winning years.
The Alverno Jaguars are the 2004 Southern Section Division VI champs, a title they also won in 1981. Alverno, a Catholic high school for girls in Sierra Madre with 282 students, was the first school of any size in the West San Gabriel Valley to win two CIF softball championships.
