Sierra Madre Volunteer Firefighters' Ball Saturday, Dec. 6th, 2008 The Annual Firefighters' Ball was held at La Salle High School. Mercy and the Merkettes (Deanna Cogan - vocals; Cynthia Contreras - vocals; Mercy Powell - vocals; Dave Osti - Guitar; Marc Doten - Bass; Steve Powell - Drums) performed, with guest appearances by Scott Fanell of Snotty Scotty and the Hankies, Steve Vargas of Horses on Astroturf and Tim Tutweiler, of the now defunct Usual Gang of Idiots. Once again, the US Marine Corps had representatives on hand to collect Toys for Tots. Rumor has it that next year's ball will return to O'Malley Hall at St. Rita's Church.
