Casa del Rey Grand Opening Saturday, October 30, 2004
Fine Mexican cuisine is now being served at Sierra Madre’s newest restaurant. Casa del Rey held its Ribbon Cutting to celebrate its Grand Opening on Saturday October 30, 2004. Prior to the ribbon cutting, Father Pat Brennan of Mater Dolorosa Retreat Center and Father Richard Krekelberg of St. Rita's Catholic Church performed a ceremony blessing the restaurant with the traditional holy water and the burning of incense. The ribbon cutting, with Mayor Rob Stockly and Mayor pro tem George Maurer representing the City Council, and Chamber of Commerce Board members Karma Bell and Bob Matheson representing the Chamber of Commerce, was over quickly, but after the ceremony delicious taquitas, flautas and quesadillas were served in the "patio" dining area of the restaurant. Owners Ed and Donna Rey were joined by their family, including Ed's father Bill, who opened the first Casa del Rey in Temple City back in 1972. Casa del Rey offers authentic Mexican cuisine, daily luncheon specials, and wine margaritas. A full bar service is coming soon.
