Arnold's Hardware Sale Closes 6/13/03
(6/16/03) Escrow Closes Friday, Sale Starts Saturday at Arnold's "Frontier" Hardware Basil Kruger and Bob Hatfield's transition at Arnold's Hardware has officially begun, with escrow closing on Friday, June 13. And on Saturday, shoppers at Arnold's were greeted with a sign on the counter stating that all tools were 20% off as part of a Father's Day sale. In addition to an immediate cut on tool prices, Basil began increasing inventory, transporting truck loads of stock over from his other hardware store location in Duarte, Frontier Hardware. Basil, who began in the hardware business in 1980 at Frontier Hardware, has now officially acquired Arnold's and plans to make big changes, while keeping things the same. The name will remain the same, only with the addition of the word "Frontier." Increased inventory, a new paint job, "bib" overall uniforms, and an affiliation with Ace Hardware, instead of True Value, which Arnold's had been affiliated with, will be among the changes. However, knowledgeable, friendly service will remain, as evidenced by the numerous customers we saw Saturday asking about everything from nails to conduits to electrical boxes. Basil had a smile on his face as he and his staff expertly helped every one of them. And even outgoing owner Bob Hatfield, whom you would think already has every tool he might need, expressed interest in buying one of the new ultra-socket wrenches Basil has introduced to the store. Basil has owned Frontier hardware in Duarte since 1991. Outgoing owner Bob Hatfield, who will be missed by his many friends and customers, bought Arnolds in 1960. Throughout the last several days, he has been heard expressing gratitude to his customers, for their loyal patronage, and letting them know he was leaving the store in good hands. "There's a lot of things I've wanted to do around here, but just haven't been able to get them done, I'm not as young as I used to be. Basil is going to get these things done...." |
