Pioneer Family Events at Ward’s Ranch

The Sierra Madre Pioneer Days Association rounded up many fun events for children and families this year.  Gold panning, apple bobbing, butter churning, clothes washing, cabin building (with Lincoln logs), and pioneer dress-up were just some of the activities that took place from 12 to 4 pm at E. Waldo Ward & Son Ranch on Saturday October 9th.  Three-legged races, hoop races, wheel barrow races started at 2 pm.  The watermelon seed spitting contest followed the races.  For a list of the winners of the races and seed-spitting contests, click here. Jeff Ward gave tours of the factory and the gift shop was open.  The museum was also open to visitors.

Boys Scout Troop 110 (St. Rita's) sold hot dogs (hot dogs were generously donated by Taylor's Old Fashioned Meats), the Woman's Club sold brownies and beverages, and Sierra Madre Community Nursery School, Sierra Madre School and St. Rita's had booths with kids activities.
