Status Report Sierra Madre Downtown Improvement Project

As of November 1, 2002 the City of Sierra Madre Downtown Improvement project was substantially complete. The Contractor remains on site correcting various minor items of work per directions from City staff inspectors. This work is to be complete by November 15th.

Due to unforeseen difficulties with their suppliers of poles and light fixtures, the Edison Company was unable to provide all of the needed street lights and poles in time to meet the November 1st completion deadline. In order to have a significant section of the project area “lit” by November 1, Edison provided temporary acorn-shaped light fixtures. These lights are brighter than the permanent fixtures that were ordered. It is important to note that these lights are temporary only. The permanent lights will match the existing lights on North Baldwin in style and wattage.

Edison contractors will return to the project area and set the remainder of the poles and install the light fixtures as they arrive from the suppliers. The Edison Company has assured the City that all light poles and all of the permanent light fixtures will be installed by November 15th. Edison has provided temporary fixtures and overtime installation and service to the City at no charge, in an effort to complete the project in a timely manner.
