The 18th Annual Sierra Madre Police Benefit Tennis Tournament took place Friday, October 6th. Proceeds from past tournaments have purchased safety cages in patrol cars, bullet proof vests, disaster equipment, more police phones, and paid for community crime prevention programs and more.
The tournament was founded
in 1983 by the late Louise Corp, an avid tennis player and community volunteer.
When her husband Charles was mayor of Sierra Madre, she learned of important
police department needs that the City was unable to include in its operating
budget. She began the tournament as a way to meet those needs.
Since her death in 1991, the tournaments have continued in her memory.
Charles serves as honorary chairman, and Corp family members are always
in attendance.
