Posted 5/6/12 – The Sierra Madre Kiwanis Club will host its 2nd annual “Boot Skootin’ Chili Cookoff” event next weekend, on Saturday, May 12. This fundraiser will feature a chili competition with up to a dozen chili recipes. Peter Dills will be the “official” chili judge, and guests will also vote for their favorite chili. There will be music, dancing, and a professional dance instructor giving free lessons in western-style line dancing. The evening will also feature a no-host beer and wine bar, door prizes, and a silent auction. The silent auction will feature an opportunity to bid on an artistic cross made from the wood of the recently felled pepper tree from Kersting Court. You can read more about that here.
Kiwanis president Susan Henderson remarked “We anticipate a packed house…with a whole lotta chili and fun for everyone!” The Boot Skootin’ Chili Cookoff will be from 6 to 10 pm at the newly renovated Sierra Madre Room of the Sierra Madre Recreation Center, located at 611 E. Sierra Madre Blvd. Tickets are $25 per person, and are still available at the Bottle Shop, or by calling 355-2335 or 355-8333.
