Posted 3/4/12 – There will be four City Council election events in the next eleven days, looks like the election cycle is in full swing.
Harry L. Embree VFW Post 3208 will host a candidate forum, open to the public, at the Senior Center from 1:30 to 3:30 on Sunday, March 11th.
On Tuesday March 13, the Candidates Forum will present all candidates who are running for City Council. Candidates will state their positions on important issues and will takes questions from the audience. An optional lunch will be available, for $10.
On Wednesday, March 14th from 6:30 to 8:30pm, the Council is sponsoring a Candidate forum, which will be moderated by the League of Women Voters, Pasadena Area. The forum will be held in City Council chambers in City Hall, 232 W. Sierra Madre Blvd. Residents will have the opportunity to put their questions in writing for the candidates. The League will have “question sorters” on hand to provide your questions to the moderator. According to the rules of the forum provided by the LWVPA, “the sorters will compile similar questions together, for the moderator. It is each Moderator’s option to ask, or not ask, the Sorters themselves to condense/rephrase recurring questions on a topic. The Sorters become screeners only for questions inappropriate to a forum. They will intervene for reckless inflammatory questions or for very personal ones. The moderator attempts to present questions covering the widest range of issues.” There is no charge to attend, and the public is invited.
On Thursday, March 15th, the Chamber presents its March Mixer, annually hosted by the Sierra Madre Woman’s Club at their historic clubhouse, “Essick House,” located at 550 W. Sierra Madre Blvd. The mixer will be held from 5 to 7pm, and attendees will have the opportunity to meet and greet the Council candidates. Each candidate will be introduced an have an opportunity to speak for 2 – 3 minutes, but the rest of the time they will be mingling with the attendees, who will also have the opportunity to sample the culinary skills of the Woman’s Club. As this is a fundraiser for the Chamber, admission will be charged, at the reduced rate of $5/person.
All seven Council candidates have confirmed their intent to attend both Chamber events.
