Posted 11/18/11 – During a Veterans Day event in Monrovia’s Library Park, WWII Veteran Mitsuo Kunihiro, 93, of Sierra Madre, displayed his Nisei Congressional Gold Medal he received earlier this month in Washington, D.C. A plaque honoring Korean War veterans, which was a multi-year project for Monrovia’s American Legion Post 44, was dedicated during the ceremony on 11/11/11.
Monrovia’s annual Veterans Day commemoration took place at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 11, at the Armed Services Memorial in front of the Monrovia Public Library in Library Park at 321 South Myrtle.
The Veterans Day program in Monrovia was sponsored by the Allied Veterans Council. Master of ceremonies Scott Sinclai, president of the Allied Veterans Council. The program included patriotic music performed by the Monrovia High School Band, posting of the colors by members of VFW Post 2070 and the traditional placing of a wreath honoring all Veterans.
A surprise guest made a special appearance at the podium. WWII Veteran Mitsuo Kunihiro, 93, of Sierra Madre made a brief statement and proudly displayed his Nisei Congressional Gold Medal.
