Posted 11/13/11 – On a chilly, drizzly day, Harry L. Embree VFW Post 3208 moved its ceremony to honor veterans from in front of the Veteran’s Photo Wall to under the pergola to get out of the rain. The ceremony was held Saturday, Nov. 12th, the day after Veteran’s Day.
Post Commander Dave Loera welcomed everyone in attendance, then introduced Vice-Commander Duncan MacGillivray, who recited “The Veteran’s Prayer.” Then VFW member Steve Paszek spoke about his service in the Army in 1960s Germany. Vice-Commander MacGillivray then returned and discussed his service on the USS Jenkins and the USS Eldorado in the 1960s and early 1970s. Mayor John Buchanan was the guest speaker. The ceremony ended with Ken Walker leading the audience in “God Bless America.”
The crowd at the ceremony was made larger by a group of teen members of Sierra Madre Pony League, who atteneded to thank the veterans for a recent donation by the VFW to pay for the repair of the backstop on the baseball field that they use for their games.
