Saturday, August 20th, from 9am to 2pm in the Mariposa Parking Lot (behind the Bottle Shop), LA County Public Works in conjunction with the City will host a Hazardous Waste and E-Waste Roundup. Old paints, thinners, pesticides, oils, pool chemicals and fluorescent bulbs, among other things, qualify. In the E-waste section, bring your TVs, computer monitors, cell phones, printers and more. Click on the image at left for a more complete listing.
Also, on the following Saturday, August 27th, Edison has a program where they will come and pick up your old (but working) energy-inefficient refrigerator or freezer and haul it away for you, and they’ll even pay you $50 to let them do it. To schedule your home pick-up, call (800) 234-9722 between 7am and 6pm Monday thru Friday, or 7am to 3:30 on Saturday. Some conditions do apply and appointments are limited. Click on the poster at left to learn more of the details.
Coming in September there will be a fluorescent lamp/tube recycling event, and a free lamp exchange to replace up to 10 lamps with more energy efficient ones. We’ll post that info as we get a little closer to the dates.
