Mayor John Buchanan and a whole host of City employees, department heads in particular, were joined by Council Members Nancy Walsh and Leslee Hinton, Pat Alcorn and Rachelle Pastor Arizmendi of the Community Services Commission on June 30th at a traditional ribbon-cutting and dedication of the new playground equipment at Memorial Park. $75,000 was allocated by the CRA for the new equipment. City staff worked with Great Western Park and Playground Game Time. The Sierra Madre Parks Master Plan was utilized in the design, including the re-introduction of swings to the play area.
Said Buchanan: “Every one of us, I think remembers….the playground was a place you could go just to be a kid. You didn’t worry about anything else, there wasn’t this pressure on you to do something else, other than just to test your mettle against whatever playground equipment was there and see if you could conquer it.”
