The City Council took a few moments to recognize the Sierra Madre Community Foundation for its contributions to the City last night. Rob Stockly, Chairman of the ten member, all volunteer Board of Directors of the Foundation, was on hand to receive a certificate from Mayor John Buchanan. Stockly then spoke for a few minutes about what the Foundation, which operates in partnership with the California Community Foundation, does.
The Foundation serves as a resource for building and preserving permanently endowed funds that enhance the welfare of the residents and generally enrich the quality of life in Sierra Madre. Among the projects that the Foundation has been involved with are the restoration of the cannon at Memorial Park, the renovation of the Sierra Madre School auditorium, and the City Centennial celebration in 2007. This year’s projects include sponsoring the Family Movie night at the Pool, the Arbor Day presentation by the City, and a technology grant for Creative Arts Group.
Currently, the Foundation is accepting donations to help fund the 4th of July Festivities. Checks should be made out to Sierra Madre Community Foundation, with a note that it is a donation to the 4th of July fund. Checks should be mailed to:
