Posted 5/14/15 – Saturday night’s Boot Skootin’ Dance and Chili Cook-off, hosted in the Sierra Madre Room by the Kiwanis Club of Sierra Madre, attracted lots of folks to enjoy some chili, bid on items at a silent auction, and do a little country western dancing. This was the fifth annual Boot Skootin’ event, all of which have been chaired by Kiwanian Joe Pergola. There were seven chili entries from various individuals and organizations, and the winners may surprise you.
First and second prizes were awarded in two categories, The people’s choice, as voted by those in attendance, and Critic’s Choice, as chosen by Celebrity Critic Peter Dills. Second prize in the People’s Choice category went to SM Fire Chief Steve Heydorff, and first prize was awarded to the Rotary entry (you read that right) from Vokouhi Unell. Critic’s choice 2nd place also went to the Rotary entry, with 1st place awarded to residents Glenn and Amy Putnam.
DJ Henry Duenas not only played country western music, he also gave instruction in country dancing, and the dance floor was filled. Below the video of that, you’ll find the photo gallery from the evening. Click on a photo to enlarge.
