Press Release posted 3/20/15 – The annual Huck Finn Fishing Derby and Campout is just around the corner on Friday, March 27, 2015 through Sunday, March 29, 2015. The weekend long event is held at the Sierra Madre settling basins next to Dapper Field and behind the Public Works Yard.
Camp Out –SOLD OUT!
The Campout will be held Friday, March 27 and includes a campfire, s’mores roasting, Boy Scout and Cub Scout Troop 110 wilderness demonstrations, Eaton Canyon Nature Center wilderness demonstrations, and star gazing.
Fishing Derby – Saturday, March 28
The fishing derby is open to youth ages 3-15 years. The event runs from 7:00am – 11:30am and costs $11 per youth. You can only register the morning of the event at the entrance located next to Dapper Field in Sierra Vista Park. All skill levels are welcome and experienced Fishing Guides will be on site to assist participants. The Pasadena Casting Club will also be demonstrating great fly fishing techniques. Awards in four age categories will be announced at 12:00pm along with the participant raffle. The Sierra Madre Kiwanis Club will provide food available for purchase.
Family Fishing – March 28 and March 29
Family Fishing is from 12:30pm – 4:00pm on Saturday, March 28 and from 7:00am – 4:00pm on Sunday, March 29. Admission is $21 for a family of four or $11 per individual; no fishing license is required. Entrance is located next to Dapper Field in Sierra Vista Park. We encourage patrons to catch as many rainbow trout as possible during family fishing!

The Sierra Madre Volunteer Firefighter Association is again making a large contribution to the 2015 Huck Finn Fishing Derby and Campout and we encourage participants to attend the SMVFA Pancake Breakfast on May 2, 2015 from 7:00am – 11:00am at Memorial Park. Tickets for the pancake breakfast will be sold at the fishing derby – tickets are $5 and they can also be purchased at The Only Place in Town or at the Fire Station.
