Dave and Teri Loera
Posted 2/5/15 – Several dozen folks turned out to the Sierra Madre Room on Saturday, Jan. 31st to honor Dave Loera, named the 2014 Sierra Madre Citizen of the Year by the Sierra Madre Chamber of Commerce. Most of the City Council joined Congresswoman Judy Chu, Chamber Board members, members of the Harry L. Embree VFW Post 3208, and friends and family of the honoree. Speeches and commendations were given, a pasta buffet dinner prepared by Peppertree Grill was served, and dessert was provided by Poppy Cake Baking Company.
From the Chamber press release on the announcement of Loera as the Citizen of The Year: “The COTY award is granted to an outstanding Sierra Madre resident who best demonstrates the town’s spirit of volunteerism during the year. Loera’s credentials are extensive. In addition to his VFW responsibilities, he currently serves on the Committee for Congresswoman Judy Chu in the collaboration between the Veteran’s Administration Health Care System and Pasadena City College to establish a Veteran’s Health Center in the San Gabriel Valley. He also serves on Assemblymember Chris Holden’s Veteran’s Advisory Committee.
In Sierra Madre, Dave served as a Reserve Police Officer for 10 years; he has coached T-ball, Little League, Pony Colt Baseball and AYSO soccer. He is currently President of the St. Rita Men’s Club and is Past President of the Sierra Madre Kiwanis Club.
Cmdr. Loera has also been instrumental in getting the VFW to support the city’s 4th of July Parade, raise funds for the maintenance of Dapper Field and with the replacement of the bleachers at Heasley Field. He has served on Sierra Madre’s Utility User’s Tax oversight committee and much more.”
