City Hall/General Plan Committee are NOT Surveying by Phone

At last night’s General Plan Update Steering Committee (GPUSC) meeting, during public comment Councilmember MaryAnn MacGillivray asked about a telephone poll that many Sierra Madreans have been contacted about.  According to one member of the Steering Committe who has been polled, it is apparently conducted by a company from out of state, and asks questions that make it sound like it might possibly be a part of a City program, and maybe even the General Plan Survey that has been available in print and online for sometime.

That is not the case.

The City is NOT conducting ANY polls by telephone at this time.  According to City Manager Elaine Aguilar, the City does not know who is doing the poll, and is unable to do any more than ask questions, such as who is sponsoring the poll.  The pollsters do not have to answer the City’s questions.

Currently, there are two officially sanctioned surveys being conducted by the City.  One has to do with the General Plan Update, and is part of the Update process.  It was prepared by the GPUSC, and print copies are available at City Hall or it can be taken online.  It has been available for months, and was at the first GPUSC Town Hall Forum.  Print copies will be available at the next Town Hall Forum this Saturday at the Fire Station from 1 to 4pm.  To take the survey online, click here.  IF YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE PARTICIPATING IN THE GENERAL PLAN SURVEY WHEN YOU RECEIVED A PHONE CALL, BE ADVISED THAT YOU WERE NOT!  Please click on the link and take a few minutes to fill out the survey, so that your input actually makes it to the Committee.

The other survey is one that has to do with the Parks Master Plan, and it was just finalized in the last few days.  Copies of this survey will also be available at the General Plan Update Town Hall Forum on Saturday.
