“Suenos de California”, the Sierra Madre Rose Float Association’s entry in the 2011 Tournament of Roses Parade, was awarded the Governor’s Trophy for the Best Depiction of Life in California. This is the second year in a row that SMRFA won the Governor’s Trophy, and the Association’s sixth consecutive award. All of the floats were designed by Charlie Meier, except last year’s Governor’s Award winning float “California Girls” which was designed by Dick Sappington.
Sierra Madre’s float is one of only six remaining self-built floats in the parade, and is made entirely by volunteers and financed entirely through donations.
Congratulations to SMRFA!! We spoke to some people downtown who offered their congratulations to SMRFA, and we’ve made a video in which we’ve combined these congratulatory wishes with still photos and video shot on New Year’s Eve during the final judging at Sierra Vista Park. Enjoy!
