VFW Post 3208 Veteran's Day Service at Memorial Park

Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010

Harry L. Embree VFW Post 3208 hosted a Veterans Day ceremony followed by a lunch reception at the Veterans' Photo Wall in Memorial Park on Saturday.  Post Commander Dave Loera introduced WWII veterans Art Contreras and George Metzger, and Korean War veteran Bud Switzer, who told tales of their days in the service.  Following these vets, the featured speaker was Sierra Madre Police Chief Marilyn Diaz, who recalled acquiring a newfound respect for the nation's vet when visiting a Civil War hospital site.  She quoted passages from several books written by veterans, and closed by reciting the lyrics to the title song for the TV series "Band of Brothers" and an acknowledgement of Sierra Madre's Will Lambdin, currently serving in Afghanistan.
